About Me

Welcome to Literacy Toolbox!

I am a mother of two and the founder of Links to Literacy, an educational consulting company.  I am a former elementary school teacher and current stay at home mother who is passionate about literacy!  I enjoy incorporating literacy into my family’s daily life and hope to help you do the same.

My children have been exposed to books since birth (before, if you count the books I read to them in utero).  When I taught, my classroom library was a focus of my room.  Through this blog, I hope to provide tips and tools, and occasional book reviews, to help parents and educators enhance the literacy lives of children.
Currently, I am a freelance writer for The Education Center and the Montgomery County Early Childhood Education Examiner. In addition, my first book titled, Teaching Comprehension with Nonfiction Read Alouds: 12 Lessons for Using Newspapers, Magazines, and Other Nonfiction Texts to Build Key Comprehension Skills will be published by Scholastic Teaching Professional Resources in September, 2010.
I also blog at Picture This!  Teaching with Picture Books, where I look for high quality literature that can be used to model reading comprehension strategies or the six traits of writing.
It is my goal to make this blog a resource for educators and parents, alike.  If you like it, please share it!
